My name is Lonnie Hatfield but as you noticed I am called Babu. It is the Swahili word for grandfather.
I am an active team member of a ministry located in Nakuru Kenya called “A future and a hope”. We are making homes for orphans. These homes are not your typical warehouse type places that are most usually found. They are nice houses that are made into home for 8 to 12 orphans per home. I explained that to show why I am called Babu, I have “grandchildren” in Kenya.
I am a 55 year old pastor who has become very disenchanted with the way things are in what we have come to call the church. I pastor a small church in the little town of Beaver Dam, Kentucky in the western part of the state. Our major ministry is to children, we have 2 licensed Jesus centered child care facilities one of which operates 24 hours a day 6 days a week.
I am the son of a preacher and I have 2 sons, Jeremy the older (age 31) who is also a pastor and Joshua (age 29) who works as an administrator and all around handy man with me here in our ministry at Beaver Dam. My sons have given my wife and me five absolutely perfect grandchildren, Millie, Zeke, Eli, Rudy and Mya. My wife is Patti and we have been married since Feb. 14, 1975. Patti is known as Nanya which is the Swahili word for grandmother or tomato. Strange language Swahili!!! Shosho is also used for grandmother. I am in the process of learning Swahili since I am there on a regular basis and we are planning to retire in Kenya.
